A recent article in the New York Times explored how retirement is changing, and the ways that people are now approaching their golden years. The article also delves into what it means to retire, and how many people are still working well past traditional retirement age.
Aaron Rodgers has been the face of the Green Bay Packers for over a decade. He is one of the most iconic athletes that America has ever seen. The question on everyone’s mind is, When will he retire?
After all of the offseason turmoil between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, many supporters were hoping for an enraged Rodgers and a big Week 1 performance. The New Orleans Saints, on the other hand, crushed the Green Bay Packers 38-3.
Given that the Packers went 13-3 and advanced to the NFC Championship Game each of the previous two seasons, the blowout defeat was unexpected. As a result, many fans have been searching for an explanation as to why this occurred. Michael Irvin, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, feels he understands why Rodgers had such a bad season; he believes it has something to do with the aforementioned summer turmoil.

In their Week 1 matchup with the New Orleans Saints, the Packers never appeared to have a chance, putting on a really terrible effort.
New Orleans led 17-3 at halftime and went on to win 38-3 by outscoring Green Bay 21-0 in the second half. Saints quarterback Jameis Winston also got to taste that W, as he had a great game. Winston threw for 148 yards on 14-of-20 passing with five touchdowns and no interceptions.
Rodgers, on the other side, had an uncharacteristically poor effort, completing just 133 passes for 133 yards and two interceptions. So far this season, he’s thrown nearly half as many interceptions as he did all of last year (five) when he earned the NFL MVP.
So, what went wrong for the nine-time Pro Bowler and three-time MVP? Michael Irvin believes it has something to do with his retirement considerations over the summer.
Michael Irvin believes the quarterback’s retirement thoughts contributed to his poor performance.

This summer, there was a lot of drama around Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, as no one knew whether Rodgers would play for Green Bay in 2021. There were even rumors that he may retire.
After that, the 37-year-old quarterback basically acknowledged that it had crossed his mind when he arrived at training camp.
According to the Packers’ official website, he “was really working on myself and my own mental condition over the summer and at different times (pondered) whether I wanted to even keep playing.” “However, the passion still burns, and I want to be a member of the football team.”
And those retirement thoughts may have contributed to his poor performance in Week 1.
“This game is too difficult; that’s why people say, ‘If you’re talking about or considering retiring, you’re already retired,’” Irvin told TMZ Sports. “So, Aaron Rodgers was contemplating retirement or not playing, and it surfaced, man.”
Irvin, like many others, believes Rodgers can turn things around.
Irvin said, “I anticipate him to play much better; that’s not something he’ll be doing all the time.”
Is the former Dallas Cowboys receiver correct, though? Will Rodgers be able to turn things around and return to his MVP form?
In Week 2, Aaron Rodgers has a fantastic chance to lead the Packers back to victory.
Since 2016, Aaron Rodgers has had four games with a @PFF grade of less than 50.0, including yesterday’s 43.3.
In each of the last three games, he’s had four touchdowns and zero interceptions.

In Week 2, if Aaron Rodgers and the Packers want to have a pleasant and easy game to attempt to get back on track, they have the ideal opponent. Green Bay will face the Detroit Lions, who scored 33 points in Week 1 but also surrendered 41 points to the San Francisco 49ers.
In addition to the 41 points, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, they also lost CB Jeffrey Okudah to a season-ending injury.
Green Bay has a great chance to have a massive game in Week 2 with their defense already being one of the worst in football, their offense having top weapons, and Rodgers having had big performances versus Detroit in the past. You can probably count on the California product to re-enter the MVP discussion.
Rodgers may have contemplated retirement, but if there’s one thing his career has shown us, it’s not to bet against him. He’s a terrible guy, to quote Stephen A. Smith.
