The Tennessee Titans are an excellent football team. They lost to the Arizona Cardinals, as they have to every other club then’ve played, and they fell in overtime to the New York Jets, despite the fact that they were without their top two receivers, A.J. Green and Brandon Marshall. Brown and Julio Jones are two of the most well-known athletes in the world.
Aside from that, Tennessee has defeated some formidable opponents, including Russell Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Buffalo Bills.
However, what they did to the Kansas City Chiefs in Nashville on Sunday was more about the Chiefs than it was about the Titans.
The Titans employed the identical playbook that the Ravens, Chargers, and Bills used to defeat the Chiefs.
This is the script: do anything you want on offense since the Chiefs defense is bad, protect against the deep pass to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, and push Mahomes into doing too much and making foolish errors.
Check, double-check, and triple-check.
The Titans’ offense did what it does best: it did what it does best. Derrick Henry rushed for 89 yards on 29 runs, while A.J. Brown caught a play-action pass (8 catches for 133 yards.) Kelce (7 for 65) and Hill (6 for 49) were kept in check by the defense, which sacked Mahomes four times, forced one interception, and limited him to 206 passing yards and a 62.3 quarterback rating.
While upsetting Kansas City in this manner in 2021 has become fairly routine for excellent teams, the Titans achieved something no other team has done during the Patrick Mahomes era.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense hasn’t scored a touchdown in a regular-season game for the first time since Patrick Mahomes took over in 2018.
Sure, Mahomes has had his share of bad luck. Most recently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stopped Kansas City and their star quarterback without a score in the Super Bowl for the first time in the Mahomes era.
In terms of the regular season, Mahomes did neither pass or run for a touchdown against the Detroit Lions in Week 4 of 2019. In a 34-30 victory, his running backs poked it into the end zone three times, and the defense also scored.
The last time he didn’t throw at least one touchdown pass came in his sixth game as a starter in 2018. In a 30-14 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5, he did carry it in for a touchdown.
Prior to this three-point performance in Tennessee, Mahomes had only ever scored 13 points in a defeat (2019 Week 5 vs. Colts).
The Titans’ defense held Mahomes and the Chiefs to a single field goal, which says much about where the Chiefs stand after seven weeks in 2021.
The Chiefs are in serious danger of missing out on the postseason.
The potential that the Chiefs will miss the playoffs must be considered extremely serious and possible. They were the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl for months.

The Kansas City Chiefs are in a bad place after going 3-4 on the season. Now, the club and its supporters must confront the prospect that the AFC’s representative in the previous two Super Bowls may not be able to compete in 2021.
Next week’s Monday Night Football matchup pits Mahomes’ team against the New York Giants, which is both a should-win and a must-win game for the Chiefs. They still have two divisional games against the Denver Broncos to play. If the club wins these three games, they will have a total of six victories.
The issue is that the remainder of their schedule is as difficult as that of last year’s AFC West champion.
The Kansas City Chiefs still have two games remaining against the division-leading Las Vegas Raiders, as well as the (first-place) Green Bay Packers, (first-place) Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals.
Mahomes and company will need at least four victories in those six games to earn an AFC Wildcard berth. If they keep playing the way they are, it will be tough to impossible.
